Alex Akuete is a Creative Director, Founder and visual artist whose work inspires connection, revitalization, and empowerment across diverse communities. Based in Antwerp, Alex has collaborated with major local and international art and cultural institutions to develop projects that invite, mobilize, and inspire younger generations.
Alex is also the visionary behind Xray Community, a collective of over 150 young artists that serves as a platform for self-discovery, collaboration, and creative growth. This nurturing space empowers emerging artists to explore their passions while connecting with like-minded individuals.
His academic journey led him to London's New Horizon Youth Centre in 2019, where he used artistic practices to support young people facing homelessness. This experience cemented his belief in art as a powerful tool for empowerment and connection. Since then, he has collaborated with cultural institutions both locally and internationally, designing and directing innovative and impactful projects aimed at creating educational, creative and professional opportunities for the next generation.
After holding the pioneering role of Youth Artistic Project Director and Community Builder at Antwerp's MOMU (the Fashion Museum of Antwerp) and designing projects such as Alter Ensor, REVERSE and the youth community, Young Voices, Alex continues to collaborates with MoMu, Europalia and other organizations in his rol as freelance creative director. Through his work, he continues to explore the ever-evolving dynamics of interpersonal and societal relationships, using art as a medium for connection transformation and development of long lasting communities.
